The search committee is happy to announce that we have found our Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries! We started this process in October with the committee formation, followed by planning, information gathering, including visioning sessions with the middle and high school students as well as the congregation at large, and imagining the possibilities. After sharing the job posting far and wide, we reviewed 17 applicants from across the nation and beyond! After initial online video interviews, we narrowed our pool to two finalists who we brought in for longer face to face meeting with the committee, two meals, and a tour of the church.
Through our discernment process it became clear that our choice was Rev. Matthew Benz-Whittington!
Matthew is an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA) and feels called to youth ministry. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Religion from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and Master of Divinity from Columbia Theological Seminary. He is currently finishing as Interim Youth Director at Montview Boulevard Presbyterian Church in Denver. Other work experience includes campus ministry intern, youth director, and hospital chaplain. We are thrilled to bring Matthew’s deep Christian knowledge, experience with youth programming, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and enthusiasm and love for young people to our congregation! He begins his work with us on August 1. When you see him give him a hearty First Cong welcome! We will introduce him to our congregation during the 9:30 am worship service on August 5 with a reception following and an event for youth later in the day.
