For three generations of our family, First Congregational has been a constant – a place of acceptance, spiritual discovery and community connection. For our kids, the Christian Education Program has created an open landscape for spiritual growth and a place where they are learning valuable life lessons, exploring relationships, and becoming caring, compassionate individuals. First Cong is a place where we all can feel loved, accepted, and supported as we navigate life’s journey.
The Reed Family
Love is at the center of all we do and are. Our deepest desire is for all of our children and youth to know that they are God’s beloved. Each one of them belongs to God, and is precious, treasured, and loved.
Faith is formed and grows in the midst of relationships of trust, including across generations, as people get to hear each other’s stories, share experiences, offer support, celebrate joy, and honor life’s transitions and milestones. Every person of every age is a student as well as a teacher, and there is wisdom to share between the generations of faithful people. The journey of faith is an ongoing, never-ending, lifelong adventure of discovery.
Our whole life together as a congregation is a school for learning how to see and hear more clearly, to become more aware of God’s presence in our lives and the needs of the world, and more able to discern the movement of the Spirit. We open our minds and our hearts to listen for and respond to Christ’s call. We put our voices, our hands and our feet to work for the well-being of all people and of the earth.
We have developed a set of principles and practices that guide all our Faith Formation activities, and our Safe Church policy is designed to protect the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of all. Classroom doors have windows, and all volunteers and staff undergo current, satisfactory background checks. Volunteers also meet regularly to review the policy and discuss best practices, ensuring a safe environment where everyone can learn and grow in their faith without fear of harm.
