Climate Action

In 2002, our congregation’s concern for the environment led us to launch an Eco-Justice Ministry and adopt a Whole Earth Covenant. In 2019, a survey of our congregation revealed climate change as the social issue of most concern. In response, a newly formed Climate Action Team (CAT) adopted as its initial project our designation as a Creation Justice Church (a United Church of Christ marker indicating a congregation’s commitment to and stewardship of God’s creation). Church members offered more than 70 different ideas for future church projects. In 2021 we adopted our Creation Justice Covenant.

The Climate Action Team thoughtfully integrates climate concerns into our worship and actively works to reduce the church’s overall carbon footprint. They educate members on practical ways to lower personal carbon emissions while also advocating for impactful public policies that reduce greenhouse gases and foster long-term environmental sustainability.

At a recent retreat, the 15 members of the Climate Action Team agreed that the group’s social and spiritual support makes it more purposeful, joyful, and sustainable to stay engaged in the issue we care deeply about.  CAT enables us to reclaim our Christian tradition of compassion and social justice.
