Primary Way
to Connect

In a congregation our size, small groups are the primary way for people to connect with others while pursuing spiritual transformation in their lives. Small groups are a way of building an interconnected community, one in which we foster opportunities to sojourn together.

When we nurture intentional relationships with one another, we embody a relational God – a God made known in the life and ministry of Jesus, who reminds us that wherever we gather in small numbers, the Christ Presence is with us.

Summer Small Groups

All year long, First Congregational Church offers opportunities all year long to learn about our church, our activities and our programs. All of our small groups embody four important values: Inviting, Growing, Connecting and Serving. Some groups may emphasize one value over another, but each group seeks to incorporate all four values. For example, while a book study group may be primarily about growing spiritually and intellectually through a book, it is also intentional about inviting others to join the group, connecting with one another to build community, and serving others through outreach.

Bible Study

This group is structured as an open study so you can come any time you are able and still receive something that can enrich your day and help you to feel a part of our community. Sign up and we will send you a reminder of each study, and the text for that day.

Movie Group

Do you enjoy well-made, award-winning, critically-acclaimed films with a message?  If so, consider joining First Cong’s Movie Group this summer.  Similar to a book discussion group, we watch the movie on our own and meet to discuss it.  This summer, Movie Group will continue to meet via Zoom on third-Friday evenings from 6:45pm to 8:30pm.  At 6:45pm, we begin gathering and greeting each other.  At 7pm, the conversation begins, and, by 8:30pm, we adjourn.  As always, Movie Group will begin with a movie-related question for everyone to answer while greeting fellow attendees, the first part of the conversation will focus on describing the film’s characters, scenes, locations, etc., and the evening will wrap up with an analysis of the movie’s themes and messages, and their effect on us.  Film selections will be announced at least 2 weeks in advance.  When the number RSVPing is too many for a single Zoom session, we will either split the group into two smaller groups or offer a second session the following (Saturday) evening.  Recommendations of films—current or classic, mainstream or art-house, domestic or international—are always welcome.
