Music

Worship is the heart of our life together, and we find music to be one of the most meaningful expressions of our faith. We love to sing – sacred hymns and spirituals, Taizé chants, folk songs, world music, and the soaring scores of Handel and Fauré. Classical and contemporary compositions all have a place in our musical repertoire.

Our music program includes vocal choirs for every age as well as handbells and a string ensemble. Various solo instruments and constellations, such as a brass quintet at Christmas and Easter, and organ postludes punctuate our services. Our Sanctuary organ, built in 2007 by organ builder David Salmen, supports our worship and makes it possible for us to experience some of the best music written for the church, from Bach’s Fugues to Widor’s Toccata.

The love and support for our music program extends well beyond First Congregational Church and into the community. Its strong foundation is based on faithful volunteers with a love for musicmaking, and the community and friendships built in our groups last a lifetime.
