About
Duo Kondens consists of the recorder player My Eklund and organist Lisa Oscarsson. The ensemble has been dedicated several major composiDons whereof “Geist and Ghost” by Malmö based composer Daniel Hjorth and “Goldberg 1.5” is two of them. “Geist and Ghost” was first performed during Umeå2014 (when Umea was the Culture Capital City of Europe), and the composiDon Goldberg 1.5 become a reputable record in 2018. Lately duo Kondens has worked with their project “Vivaldi in our heads” where the members and two well renowned Swedish composers, Rosanna Gunnarsson and Per Egland have put their own touch on Vivaldi’s, the Four seasons, astonish music. The record was broadcasted at New Year’s Day 2023 by Radio Sweden’s classical music channel P2. Duo Kondens has also during 2021-2022 together with the composer Per Egland developed “Barnens Karneval/the Children’s Carnival, a new-old concept. By support from the Swedish Art Council Duo Kondens order music inspired of some painDngs by the arDst Joel Hultdin. This music, as well as “Vivaldi in our heads” are recorded by the European Gramophone led by the famous trombonist ChrisDan Lindberg. “Children’s Carnival” was this spring, 2023, nominated for “the best children’s music” by the independent music fesDval Manifestgalan. The duo lately premiered “Kondens predict the future” together with a youth choir and the composer Ida Lundén and gave an acclaimed concert in The Heilandskirche, Berlin.
Kondens wants to act in the present with all its possibilities, influences and limitations: electronically, technical, societal, cultural political and values based. By taking the history in to account and still take advantage of the present, Kondens wants to mediate a feeling of timelessness and presence in the music that they perform.
Since 2014, the duo has been touring around Sweden and Europe. Over the years, Kondens has been honoured in the press and radio for their interplay, their pioneering ways of interpreting music and for their musicality. The Swedish Arts Council (Statens Kulturråd) stand behind most of the duos commissioned music and they also support the ensembles activity. The Swedish Arts Grants Committee has also supported several of Kondens projects.
Background: The duo developed from the baroque ensemble “Music fit for a king” (Kungligt bra Musik), which during 2011-2014 frequently toured in the Nordic countries. The ensemble made their debut at the Early Music Festival in 2012, same year that they became one of prize winner in NORDEMs competition for young” early music” ensembles at the Nymus festival in Norway. The Swedish Radio P2 broadcasted of one of ensembles concerts. “… The ensemble that calls itself Music fit for a King deserves its name. In Backens church they performed glowingly beautiful Baroque music by the master Johann Sebastian Bach and the Swedish connected composers…”. – Radio Sweden the classical music channel P2 (June 2013). It was from this focus on early music the interest of new music, preferably connected to the early music emerge.
