Awake. Watch. Expect great things to happen. Because the Christ Light is coming.
As the darkest day of the year approaches, and the land grows still and sterile, we await a birth. This is the order of things, on earth as it is in heaven—new life always follows death. Always.
Jesus was born into a world very like ours—at war with each other, at war within ourselves. As we count the days until Christ’s birth in our hearts, the Advent season is a good time to remind ourselves that we are born to love God.
When the light is drained from the world, it’s easy to despair. The gospel assures us that it is precisely at this time that Christ is most near.
Looking for hope is as easy as looking for omens, and the rewards are greater.
Create heaven on earth by taking good care of each other and all Creation in this moment.
When we hope and work for a better future, we walk closer to the Light.
When we serve each other, we walk closer to the Light.
When we treat each other with kindness and patience, we become the Light, lifting our lanterns for those who stumble in the dark.
In this holy season, may we care for our renewing faith and for each other with the same tenderness we would care for the Christ child.
Awake. Watch. Expect great things to happen. Because the Christ Light is coming.
