Hopeless Optimism

HOPELESS OPTIMISM:

The Surprising Force of Unconventional Communication in Reckoning with Climate Change,

Demonstrated in Extremely Real Time

Please join us on April 1, from 11 am to 12:30 pm, in the Gallery adjoining Macky Auditorium. Right before your eyes, four women will “push the envelope” of the assumptions that have constrained efforts to persuade the public to pay attention to climate change and closely related environmental issues. By 12:30 p.m. on April Fools’ Day, the “envelope” of conventional thinking will have been “pushed” with such grace, humor, and good nature (pun totally intended)—that attendees and participants will be positioned to head back into the world with a dramatically (here, too, pun fully intended) expanded sense of possibility, liberated—if they so choose—to join the cause of Hopeless Optimism.

The Practitioners of Envelope-Pushing

Jenny Price, author of Stop Saving the Planet! An Environmentalist Manifesto (whose visit to Boulder is made possible by First Congregational Church)

Beth Osnes, CU Professor of Theater and Dance

Michelle Ellsworth, CU Professor of Theater and Dance

Patty Limerick, Official Fool for the University of Colorado

Attendees of any age are welcome, but we confess to a particular hope for a good turn-out of CU Students, graduate and undergraduate, in Environmental Studies, History, Theater and Dance, and Geography.

The host organization is CU’s Center of the American West, released from Sequestration on Zoom.
