I spend a lot of time out walking my dogs, and as I walk, I am often in conversation with God, even if it’s just about little things.
One day, soon after I came back to church after a hiatus of 20 years, I was out walking my dog, and a commercial jingle was playing in my head. You know how it is; I couldn’t get it to stop. So, I asked God to replace it with a hymn. I didn’t remember them from so long ago, yet, this doxology came to mind immediately:
Praise God from whom all blessings flow
Praise Him all creatures here below
Praise Him above ye heavenly hosts
Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost!
Such a blessing! The words slowly came to me, not all at once, but in steps as I walked. Now it is part of my daily routine, to go through these words and praise the Creator.
P.S.: I know this version of the doxology doesn’t use inclusive language, and I haven’t changed it here because it is the one I know. If I were to change it, I would use “them” instead of “him,” because if anyone is non-binary, God is! God reflects us all; we are all reflections of God.
