Wondering how to discern God’s calling in your life? Prayer is one path. Learn about and experience four different prayer practices for discerning God’s presence and the leading of the Spirit: Journaling, Examen, Praying with Color, and Lectio/Visio Divina. Choose one practice to attend or all four. Series facilitated by Amy Ostwald, Heidi Lindeman, Nancy Wade and Chris Braudaway-Bauman.

Week 1, March 10 & 12:  Journaling for Discernment  will focus on ways in which writing can help reveal our innermost thoughts and concerns.  We will use list-making to articulate our thoughts and will re-visit critical decision points in our lives to move forward.

Week 2, March 17 & 19: The Daily Examen is a method of prayerful reflection described by St. Ignatius in the 1500s. It’s a review of the day, looking backwards:  an opportunity to express gratitude, face shortcomings, notice God’s presence, and set an intention for tomorrow.

Week 3, March 24 & 26:  Praying with Color is a visual and kinesthetic practice. It’s less about words and more about color and shapes, prayer as meditative play and improvisation, and creating a visual reminder, a design or drawing of the time spent in prayer.

Week 4, March 31 & April 2:  Lectio/Visio Divina, translated from the Latin is “sacred reading.”  It’s the slow prayerful reading or Scripture, undertaken not to gain information but to listen for God, as St. Benedict said, “with the ear of the heart,” while lingering over a word or phrase in the text and also perhaps a visual illumination.
