Downtown Boulder Location
First Congregational Church of the United Church of Christ, Boulder, is the oldest existing congregational church in the state of Colorado. It was organized July 17, 1864, in a cottonwood grove near Valmont Butte, with 14 original members. Later Boulder was chosen as the site for the church over Valmont, as Boulder gave promise of being the future business and educational center and the county seat. From 1865 to 1875 the Reverend Nathan Thompson was pastor of the church, the first full-time minister in Boulder. Our church has a newly renovated chapel conveniently located at Broadway and Pine in downtown Boulder. The church is across the street from the Hotel Boulderado and is also less than 1/2 mile from the St. Julien Hotel, the Rembrandt Yard and the Pearl Street Mall. First Congregational Church was built in 1907 and is one of the oldest churches in Boulder. Click here for a Virtual Tour of the Chapel. We have a beautiful newly renovated Sanctuary that will seat 350 people. We also have a new chapel that seats 60 people. Both have stained glass windows and flexible seating arrangements. We also have a small parking lot available as well as the public lots behind the church.
Personalized Ceremony By a Church Pastor
Our large Fellowship Hall or the Church’s outside patio can be used for a reception. There is a fully equipped professional kitchen that can be used. There are also a number of hotels and restaurants nearby for your reception. A pastor of the Church will officiate at all weddings at the church and has responsibility for overseeing all aspects of the wedding. One of the church pastors will meet with you at least three times to discuss the deatails of your wedding service and personalize your ceremony. More in-depth premarital counseling can also be arranged with one of the pastors, should you desire. Guest officiants are welcome at the invitation of the Senior Pastor.
Experienced Ceremony Coordination
We also have one of the finest organs and organists in the Rocky Mountain region, which will make your procession down our 100-foot aisle a truly memorable experience. Of course, other types of music, such as strings, harp, guitar, woodwinds, piano, or even recorded music are possible and sound wonderful in our acoustically friendly space. Our Music Director and organist can assist you in choosing the music that is just right for your ceremony. We provide a knowledgeable and experienced ceremony coordinator who will be your personal consultant throughout your planning process, at the rehearsal, and for the wedding ceremony itself. We are an Open and Affirming congregation, that welcomes and affirms people of all sexual orientations. Weddings at First Congregational Church are planned based on the desire of the couple to make a sacred commitment to one other, not on any other criteria.
