Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your Father’s house to the land that I will show you. I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.” Genesis 12:1-2.
Many of us arrived in the Boulder area from afar, having left the people and places that shaped our early lives. We answered the calls of jobs, requests from family and friends who preceded us to the area, or we simply felt pulled to the natural beauty of the Front Range. Most of us did not know we would land at this church in the course of our journey, and yet here we are.
It is significant that God has brought us together at this moment in time, when the climate is collapsing, nations are failing, our neighbors are going hungry, and justice and compassion are under siege. God has blessed each of us and called us together in this place and time. I am eager to see the ways God will use our unique blessings to lead us to greatness, and empower our church “nation” to be a blessing in the year ahead.
Lord, please open our hearts to your voice. Give us the courage and faith we need as individuals and as a community to follow the path you will show us, to a destination we cannot yet see, where we know we will be a blessing. Amen.
